Not Only in October
In 2021, I returned to the breast cancer center where I had been diagnosed and treated the year before, this time as a photographer. I made portraits of the doctors, nurses, technicians, and specialists whose work had accompanied me through diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
The project looks beyond the visibility breast cancer receives each October to recognize the people whose knowledge, dedication, and care continue every day of the year. These portraits are both a record of the medical community behind that work and a personal expression of gratitude to those who cared for me.
With special thanks to Dr. Diana Rodríguez, Dr. Mauricio Canavati, Dr. Cinthya Villarreal, Dra. Melina Miaja, and Psycho-Oncologist Isabel Centeno, and to the nurses, technicians, and staff of the Centro de Cáncer de Mama Tec Salud whose care, kindness, and support accompanied me throughout my treatment.
